A telecommunication system may be represented by following diagram.

Types of signals:
1.Analog signal:
These signals are continuous waves with no discontinuity or break in between.all the real world signals or natural signals like sound, pressure, temperature, etc are analog in nature.
ex:
Telephone conversation.
when we are speaking on the telephone the mouth piece in the telephone set converts our speech into into analog electrical signals.
These signals are transmitted through wires of telephone to the destination, now the analog signals are converted into voice or speech by ear piece of telephone.
components : wires,mouth piece,ear piece.

2.Digital signal:
Discrete signals are discrete on-off pulses, i.e, they represent information in terms of only two states of signals, either one (1) or zero(0).
Any number has represent 0 or 1.these digits are called binary digits.
Features:

Digital signal does not have disturbance or noise when compared with analog signal. It has high quality voice.digital signals can pass long distances by amplifying it at regular intervals.
